The kidnapping of the 5 schoolchildren and 4 staff members occurred when the school bus conveying 25 pupils home after school hours was waylaid by the gunmen in the Emure community in Ekiti State.

Shedding light on how the incident occurred, the school principal explained that the abduction occurred about a five-minute drive from the school. Recalling the incident , he said all 25 occupants were asked to get down from the school bus and lie flat on the floor , after which 2 senior secondary and 3 primary pupils alongside 2 teachers, 1 bus driver and 1 bus assistant were taken hostage.

Governor Abiodun Oyebanji has charged the security agencies in the state to put their best foot forward to ensure they bring back all captives safely back home.
